I learned how to do something useful today. I learned how to reformat a hard drive the ***right*** way. Yes, there is a very, very, very wrong way to reformat a hard drive that erases EVERYTHING from your hard drive including the drivers you need to operate the cd rom to reinstall the operating system.

Shocked

I did it that way ONCE!! Live and learn!! Thank God it wasn't MY computer!! I don't think my uncle will ever forgive me!!

Today, thanks to some help from some special friends (from back in the Gas-House days!!), I got Windowz XP installed successfully on Mr. Keith's computer. Helpful hint: Have the product key available to type in at the prompt. Mr. Keith didn't keep the cd in the orginal jewel case. Funny, how you need that jewel case (and the product key that's located on it) in times like these. Luckily, the nice ladies at Mircosoft were able to generate a new key for moi. We were up and running in no time flat.

You know you're a workaholic when you're feeling guilty for not going into the "office" while on vacation!! We're on an extended Spring Break/Easter Holiday this week and next. The reason for the extention is because we're a year round school now. We're due a couple of weeks off. Teaching is one of those professions (perhaps the only one to this degree) where there is always something that needs to be done. That's one of the reasons why I like it so much. I've spent some time working as a secretary, in a warehouse, in a chicken processing plant (for 4 lovely days) and various other jobs where at the end of the day...and sometimes before then...you're done. It's over. Then you have to sit there trying to look busy or pretty. I've never been very good at either!! Smile

I stand corrected. Trucking is a lot like teaching!! Trucking was a blast!!! Due, in part, to the challenges that every load presented. Can I beat the odds and get there on time? Is the illogical logistics crew within the company going to do something to fark everything up? Always something to do. Somewhere to go. I don't remember ever (in the five years that I trucked) being late for a load. I only wish I could say in the 6 years I've been a teacher that I was such the "perfect match" for every student I had.

I ran out of ink for the printer and payday isn't until sometime next week. So much for getting work done around the house!!

Blogging? Why am I doing this? I'm not really sure to be honest. Putting myself "out there" for judgement and possible ridicule. Hmmmm....Perhaps we'll keep my real name out of it!! :)

Speaking of ridicule....I am not an english major. I teach first grade and there's a good reason for that!! I try to write like I talk. I talk non-stop. I think it's more important that people write and express themselves rather than have big, overblown, humongus hang ups over grammar and punctuation. What you'll see here is the real (computer generated) me. I'll try to edit. But, I'm sure it won't be perfect. Just like the forms I get from the county where I teach. Gramatical errors and misspellings galore!!

I read somewhere that 12,000 new blogs are created, daily. Howdy, neighbors.

I guess part of the reason that I'm doing this is that I'd like to think I have some original thoughts, experiences, insights that other people could use, learn from or generally not repeat. Most of the time, I am generally in a very good mood. Hence, the moniker CosmicKelly which literally means Cosmic "out of this world" and Kelly "the only mention of my real name you'll ever hear."

It's the 24th day of March, 2005. My 37th birthday will be here in a week and a day. A friend of mine tells me that women hit their sexual peak when they hit 37. I hope he's right. Any peaks at all will be a welcome relief.

So, I guess you want to know something about me.

Here are the gory details:

  • I am a single, white, female, 36 years old in a committed relationship with possibly the greatest man on the planet. For purposes here, we'll refer to him as Mr. Keith.
  • I have one baby, Madison, a cocker/chow/lab mix who just turned 3 in February.
  • In September of 2004, I began a new journey as a kidney dialysis patient.
  • My other health issues include: diabetes, high blood pressure, neuropathy, and heart valve problems. Other than that I'm healthy as an OX!!
  • I come from a large extended family. I am the oldest of five. My parents were divorced when I was a senior in high school. My dad remarried and I have tons of brothers and sisters from that union that I adore. I guess we all turned out all right!! We produced a teacher (me), and interior designer (sis 1), a lawyer (sis 2), a future advertising/communications professor or executive (bro), and a future medical researcher/doctor (sis 3). Not bad for such a shallow gene pool!! ;)

Recent Good News

On Tuesday, March 22, I went to the Foot Center where the doctor cleaned up the area on my foot that still had scar tissue from the amputation. Underneath the scar tissue, the amputation wound had healed completely. This is super news on several fronts. An appointment was made for April 7th to have molded shoes made for my feet!! Finally, I will be out of the special boot!! Because the wound has healed, I will be able to proceed with the all of the steps needed to procure a pancreas and kidney transplant!!
